Foreigners Complaints Hotline – 1111 hotline

Bangkok, 20 March, 2015 – The Royal Thai Government has launched a new 1111 hotline to receive complaints from foreigners in Thailand, in addition to the existing 1155 Tourist Police Call Centre.

HotlimeIn case of emergency, foreigners are advised to dial 1155. The 24-hour Tourist Police Call Centre is ready to offer assistance to both tourists and foreign residents in Thailand. There will be interpreters on standby to receive all emergency calls. If the pressing cases are beyond the centre’s jurisdiction, they will be referred to the respective government agencies.

For non-emergency matters, foreigners are advised to call 1111. The centre, also available 24-hour daily, is staffed by representatives from all 20 ministries to ensure prompt response for all complaints received from foreigners in Thailand. Complaints received will be coordinated through the centre to related government agencies, state enterprises, and non-governmental organisations.

The government plans to expand the 1111 centre’s coverage to Thai embassies in the ASEAN countries.

The move is part of the government’s tireless effort to review all safety measures and standards, as well as to offer prompt assistance to foreigners who may need help while in Thailand.

Mr. Sugree Sithivanich, Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications of the Tourism Authority of Thailand said, “The call centres also form part of a raft of measures recently launched by the Royal Thai Government with an aim of improving the experience of travellers and tourists visiting the kingdom, as well as showing our commitment in welcoming visitors.”’

Chainat – Long Tail Boat Race Cup

The Long Tail boats racing in Chainat have been organized since 2006, and it has become an annual event with participants from all over Thailand. Boat racing has been a part of Thai culture for centuries. Chainat Boat Races are held for 3 days followed by an important religious ceremony of the province, the annual offering of huge saffron robe to cover the highly revered shrine at Wat Phra Barommathad built in early Ayutthaya period.

Chainat is one of the ancient cities in the central region of Thailand. It is located on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River at the mouth of Phraek Si Racha canal. The community was moved from the old site at Sankhaburi in the reign of King Rama IV. Chainat was an important town used several times as a base to confront the Burmese army. Every time, the Burmese were defeated, thus originating the name of Chainat which means a place of victory.

Chainat has beauty natural, historical sites, park and many more cultural attractions, including the Chao Phraya Dam, the Chainat Bird Sanctuary, which protects over 100 species of bird.

This commemorates the first sermon Buddha gave to his first five disciples. It is always held on the day before the start of Buddhist Lent.

Khao Phansa Buddhist Lent Day

Buddhist Lent Day is a period of three lunar months during the rainy season when monks are required to remain in one particular place or wat (temple). Khao Phansa Day is on the first day after the full moon of the eighth lunar month and marks the beginning of the three-month Buddhist ‘lent’ period. The tradition of Buddhist Lent or the annual three-month rains retreat known in Thai as “Phansa”. Khao Phansa means to remain in one place during the rainy season. Phansa represents a time of renewed spiritual vigor and Khao Phansa festival is a major Buddhism merit-making festival.

Tonight, they will mesmerise the audience as they celebrate the life and works of King Frederick, himself a distinguished flutist. The programme, featuring Telemann’s “Don Quichotte” Overture; Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s Sinfonia in D Major and Flute Concerto in D Minor; as well as Frederick the Great’s own Sinfonia in A Major is bound to delight.
