Pranburi is becoming popular with those who are looking for a quiet alternative to nearby Hua Hin, particularly those who wish to combine time at the beach with day trips to nearby Sam Roi Yod National Park.Situated just 30km south of Hua Hin, Pranburi is beginning to attract more visitors to its quiet and pristine beaches along the Gulf of Thailand. Cha-am Beach

August 15, 2014 by Clrance Heck

Cha-am Beach Cha Am is a popular and well known destination with a long, attractive beach that draws tourists in droves. The town has a much more laid back atmosphere than Hua Hin and is generally a lot quieter. Even so, it can be extremely busy on weekends and holidays, with coach loads of Thai visitors arriving for a few days of sun, sea and sand. The beachfront dominates the tourist part of town, which is also where most of the attractions and activities are located.

Some lesser known beaches are located further north such as Puk Tien (14 km away), and some tranquil and isolated beaches are scattered between Hua Hin and Cha Am, usually harder to reach or within a resort or hotel grounds. It’s worth exploring the area as you might discover a few off-the-beaten-track places that few people know about.

The Beach
cha-am-beachCha Am’s beach hugs a pleasant tree lined road and stretches for miles in eachCha-am Beach direction. On the clearest days, Hua Hin’s tallest hotels are visible in the distance. Many visitors to Cha Am might not be aware that the town comprises much more than the beach and adjacent roads, but most tourists simply stay near the beach as this is where all the action is, and there isn’t much reason to venture any further.

Due to its length, the beach is rarely crowded (unless there is a local festival or special event happening in which case it’s chockablock) and there is plenty of room for everyone. There are a few areas where tourists congregate but anyone who wants solitude can find it easily. The abundant pine trees provide some welcome shade and the sand is fine, so the beach is understandably popular with Thais but a few foreigners can be found soaking up the sun. The atmosphere here is decidedly different to Hua Hin, but both provide an enjoyable beach side experience.

Cha-am Beach Where to Eat
You’re spoilt for choice on Cha Am’s beach. Just find a suitable place to sit by a table or sun bed and you’ll be prompted to order from one of the many beachside restaurants. There are also hundreds of stalls and vendors along the entire road so it’s even easier to find a place to eat than in Hua Hin. Since the majority of customers are Thai it’s no surprise that Cha Am has some excellent Thai food and seafood, but it’s also possible to find decent western restaurants and cafes along the beach road and adjoining lanes.

Activities
The pink bicycles that can be seen around Cha Am can be hired very cheaply all over the place, and are a great way to explore the beach road and nearby area. Cha Am offers loads of interesting and exciting things to do, and on the beach Cha-am Beach itself there are such diverse activities as horse riding, banana boats (a firm favourite in Thailand), jet-skis and various beach games including football and volleyball.

Another popular activity in Thailand is massage and Cha Am is no exception. There are countless massage shops all over town, but the best ones can be found in the more upmarket spa hotels and resorts. Otherwise, it’s easy to have a massage on the beach.

You might also see locals searching for edible molluscs and shells at several places on the beach, which doesn’t sound particularly fun but it can be quite a challenge. Unless you want to go home empty handed however, this is perhaps an activity best left to the experts.

Hua Hin Information

March 20, 2014 by Clrance Heck

Hua Hin (HuaHin), the in-beach town for Bangkok’s elite is located on the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand, 170km south of Bangkok, on Ptchkasem Road between kilometer marker 224 and 245. In the 1920’s, Hua Hin became a popular retreat for Thai Royal Family, Bangkok’s high society, and affluent foreigners. Hua Hin, basically has two main streets, for those who arrive on the train, the main street will be Damnern Kasem boulevard which leads from the Hua Hin railway station straight to the main Hua Hin beach and is a distance of approxamitely 1km. One the way you will pass various goverment offices and end on the beach front beside the former Royal Railway Hotel, now the five-star Sofitel Central Hotel.

The actual main street, is the southern Petchkasem Highway, which passes directly through the town and on both sides you’ll find markets, main shops and restaurants. The deluxe hotels and condos are out on the beach front but you can still gain acess through the many side steets and the beaches are a public area.Hua Hin Information

On weekdays, Hua Hin still leads a fairly normal life but come weekends, the curbs outside restaurants are lined with cars such as Mercedes and BMW’s as people on holidays come out.

Hua Hin does not have the brassy beer bars and racy nightlife as you’ll find on the other side of the Gulf. The beaches, wide open endless stretches of fine powdery white sand, are relatively uncrowded and clean. The pace of life is calm and relaxing and an ideal place to bring the family for their annual holiday.

Hua Hin Information         In the early days, King Rama VI built the first royal summer palace outside Hua Hin. His successor, King Rama VII built another one in Hua Hin, naming it Klai Kangwon Palace, which is still in use by the Royal Family.

Shortly after, the royalties and Bangkok society followed suite, building beach villas down the shorelines. The Southern railway was extended to Hua Hin in 1922. The Railway Hotel was built in the style of the grand hotels of Europe, serving afternoon tea, champagne dinners, with regular garden parties and ballroom dancing. Then, the Royal Railway Golf Course, the first and some say was the most beautiful in Thailand, was built on a wooded hill estate across the track from Hua Hin Station. The uphill-downhill fairways lead through thickets of 100-year old trees. Glimpses of the blue sea could be seen from several of the Tee’s.

Once the word about Thailands beautiful beaches and friendly people was out, the beaches on the eastern coast were discovered, first Bang Saen and then Pattaya which attracted Thai and foreign visitors, more for the promises of having good times as well as the beaches, which started the Pattaya real estate boom.

Hua Hin, in the mean time, had taken a bit of a back seat with discerning investors quietlyHua Hin Information developing choice Hua Hin properties for upmarket clientele. Luxury condos as well as five-star hotels have since gone up along the beach lines and many scenic new 18-hole golf courses have opened in the area. All of these developments were the start to the continious expansion of Hua Hin and the city it is today.

Now Hua Hin is more popular than ever with Thais and foreign families. Hua Hin has several 5 star hotels and more are settling into the Hua Hin Paradise City.

While in Hua Hin you can find many attractions for everyone to enjoy and there are also many yearly festivals held, such as: Chinese new year, Songkran Festival, Loy Kratong, Hua Hin Jazz Festival, Hua Hin & Cha-am Golf Festival and the world famous Hua Hin Kings Cup Elephant Polo Tournament.

Come and enjoy Hua Hin Paradise City and see the many things it has to offer!

Built on the original site of the deer-hunting party for The Grand Duke of Russia, King Rama VI declared the vicinity off -limits to all kinds of hunting after building the palace. This palace is a set of three teak pavilions facing the sea standing way out into the beach front. The pavilions constructed three meters above ground were linked by covered wooden walkways. The king refered to the palace as ” a place of love and hope”. Very fine woodwork adorned the whole palace. The beach front of the palace is shady with ancient casuarina threes, which provide a serene place for relaxing.

The beautiful, colonial style Railway Hotel (known now as Sofitel Central Hua Hin Resort) was built near Hua Hin‘s famous rocks in 1923 by the State Railway Authority. By the 1960 s it had fallen into disrepair, but a s sensitive restoration of the elegant 1920s’ decor, museum tea room, and intricate topiaries won it an Outstanding Conservation Award from the Architects’ Association of Thailand in 1993. Before its refurbishment the hotel and its environs were used extensively in the making of the film “The Killing Fields”, where it stood in for the Phnom Penh Hotel. The Sofitel admirably manages to preserve one of Hua Hin‘s popular classic landmarks – the 80 years old topiary elephant astriding the hotel’s driveway now shaped like a cute baby elephant.

Few km on the beach south of Hua Hin lies the Khao Takiab hill with Buddhist shrines atop. A stairway leads to the top, which is about five storey high. From the top, the overall view of Hua Hin beach and the surrounding area can be seen in a fascinating panorama. One way of reaching Khao Takiab is on a pony-for-hire from the main beachfront and amblesouthwards along the wide open beach. The way will lead pass old stately villas, swanky resort hotels and private condos presenting an interesting variety of architectural styles the succeeding golden eras of Hua Hin.

All these past developments have set the stage for Hua Hin‘s popularity and unique ambiance, which remains to this day.
